About Ellie

Ellie began teaching group fitness classes in 2004, and has taught it all over the years, but her journey to yoga took time. She finally found the courage to sign up for yoga teacher training at YoYoYogi in Portland, OR in 2018. After that, she went down an energetic and spiritual rabbit hole, consuming countless books, becoming a Reiki Master, and working towards a 500hr yoga teacher certification.

Her style is a perfectly paced flow that matches breath to movement. Her classes weave together movement, yoga philosophy, energetics, and spiritual teachings. She also loves a good playlist, because it brings a sense of joy and levity to her practice.

Ellie fully believes how you do anything is how you do everything. This philosophy is what brought her to Tosha. The care with which the altar is decorated, the tea brewing before class, the friendliness of the neighbors on the mats around you, all of it. This resonance that everything within the studio is filled with care, compassion, and love, told her she was home. She is beyond grateful to share this practice with you here at Tosha, where her goal is to help you become more and more yourself.

About Lena

Lena grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area doing gymnastics, dance, arts & crafts, theater, and playing outside. She moved to San Diego in 2002 for undergrad studies at UC San Diego where she completed a BA in Ethnic Studies, danced a lot of modern dance, ate a lot of burritos, and further learned to appreciate education as social justice. After college she found the physicality of yoga to be a delightful and challenging way to move her body without competition. Uncertain of her next direction, she attended graduate school at San Diego State University where she completed her MA in Women's Studies and began a multiple subject teaching credential for elementary education. She taught dance to children, volunteered with the International Rescue Committee, and served as a member of AmeriCorps, before deepening her yoga practice with her first yoga teacher training in 2011.

She has since completed her 500-hour yoga teaching certification, an 85-hour prenatal certification, the Prison Yoga Project training, and workshops and trainings on a myriad of continuing education interests.

The spiritual aspects of yoga have aided her in the never-ending search for peace, calm, and positivity within, and she is passionate about sharing these tools with others. Her other favorite healing modalities include hiking, writing, cold plunges, and chocolate. She's intentional about taking yoga off the mat and loves finding the bridges between the heart & mind, the individual & community, and mindfulness & expression.

For the last decade she has been enamored with travel and grateful to have led many yoga + adventure retreats throughout California & internationally. To ensure safety on retreats and personal backpacking trips, she has training as a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) through NOLS. Lena offers a Hatha/Vinyasa class that includes asana, pranayama, mudras, mantras, and a philosophical theme woven throughout. Learn more about Lena:
