Fall Reset :: Sacred Homemaking

Two weeks tending the body and home using the wisdom of Ayurveda

Autumn is the sacred time. It is the beginning of the new cycle- where we create the SPACE for what is new to enter our lives. It is a time for clearing and cleansing. It is when we clear out all that is not essential- and in doing so, give significance and dignity to what remains.

This process of eliminating what’s not essential is the only way rest can happen and genuine change can occur. Without it we are strung along endlessly- we feel pulled behind our lives- exhausting ourselves in tizzies of meaningless tidying and tasks and obligations that don’t feed us but fill up our schedules- and leave us mentally chaotic and physically drained so we can’t make good decisions. In other words- chaos ensues.

We begin on October 11th which is the beginning of the festival of Navaratri- the 9 nights celebrating the goddess Durga.

The goddess is the light, the divine that organizes and maintains harmony so that peace can exist.

The demon she fights IS the chaos. The meaningless stuff that creeps into our homes and our words and our relationships that corrodes what is alive and beautiful.

When we tune into the physical- we tune into the body of the goddess.

By tending our body, our homes, we tend and embolden HER.

This Reset is centered around our homes. Our immediate home - our body- and our outer home as well. Our time will consist of both practice together on our mats and also individual daily house tending on our own.

Sessions together will be on Sunday afternoons and will focus on learning the framework of Ayurvedic housekeeping- which centers around knowing the art and science of creating sacred space.

Each morning you will receive a written and sometimes auditory suggestion for that day. The prompts are meant to RE-ENCHANT our lives. This is not obligatory, shame-laced, resentment-fueled house cleaning.

This is claiming the sacred right to make LOVE to the body of the world.

On Tuesday and Thursday mornings we will have a yoga practice together online or in studio- practicing slowly and deeply on our mats. Poses and sequences aimed at moving and stimulating waste removal with yoga. This is a period of heightened practice with the aim of lightening the body, heart, mind, and home- gently and lovingly.

We will be systematically and ritualistically tending and clearing each and every part of our existence.

Fall can be a busy time- and this sadhana is not designed to add burden - but to minimize it.

The tasks can be made as big or as small as you have the resources to take on.

Some days you’ll likely forget or skip it. If the invitation feels joyful- great- if not, leave it. There is no guilt. This program is not about adding MORE that feels obligatory to our to do lists.

You can adjust to meet where you are. The work as Alison May describes it:

“Housekeeping as creative discipline. The art of making a life worth inhabiting.”

Dinacharya ::

Along with your morning yoga you have a regimen of Dinacharya (daily self-care)- which will consist of small, joyful changes toward health and well-being.

You will also be invited to gently adjust your diet according to Ayurveda to support detoxification and to balance our body with the season of fall. Herbs, teas and recipes will be suggested to supplement your health.

“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall…” —F. Scott Fitzgerald

Schedule: October 11th - October 25th
