Sādhanā - Primary Series Introduction


 
Fall is already a time of change and is an ideal time to challenge ourselves and build resilience for winter. This Sādhanā is meant to help prepare you.

This Sādhanā is an opportunity to deepen your vitality and your enthusiasm for practice so that as the dark descends you have solar energy well resourced within. It is for all levels of practitioners.

A sādhanā is a set period of heightened intensity of practice- it’s essentially stepping up our game for the purpose of growth. This Sadhana centers around the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga. The Primary Series is a set of movements that are rigorous and extremely challenging and often taught within a quite prescriptive mindset. We will approach it differently.

We will allow the primary series to be a challenging container for self-exploration but with an extremely loving and compassionate approach. Our sessions will begin each time with learning the opening invocation. We will move progressively through the poses getting as far as we do.

Having a set sequence you know by heart is a wonderful way to take the guess-work out of practice. It gives you a tool you have in your pocket - a sequence you can do “without thinking”- wonderful for mornings when you know you need to move but don’t know what to do.

These two weeks will start with an alignment breakdown on Sunday- this will give time for questions and exploration before we go into four classes of morning flow.
